FAQs

Please Find our Frequently Asked Questions Below:

What type of equipment do you use to transport motorcycles?

MTL moves your motorcycle using a range of specialised equipment. Local deliveries are carried out using purpose built and modified vans and small trucks or trailers are used for those hard to reach and underground locations. Interstate, overseas and long distance moves are carried out using specially designed and fitted out trucks/ taut liners/ rigid vehicles and vans.   All our vehicles are fully enclosed and specially designed to carry motorcycles.  Our vans carry minimum 5 motorcycles and our trucks up to 12 each.  Each bike has it’s own spot on the truck and we can move between motorcycles to ensure they’re not loaded too close to one another.

What steps are involved when Motorcycle Transport & Logistics transports my bike?

The transport of your bike will be scheduled according to the dates on your Booking Order (please note: due to high demand or location of pickup/delivery dates on booking order may not always be available). After a truck has been assigned, you will receive a call from the driver or terminal to confirm a collection date and time. When the driver collects your bike he will perform a detailed inspection. Both the person releasing the bike and the driver will sign this Consignment Note. The same Consignment Note will be present on delivery so that the bike can be re-inspected before released. The driver or terminal should again call 12-24 hours in advance to schedule the delivery of the bike.

How far in advance do I need to schedule my transport with Motorcycle Transport & Logistics?

For local moves we can transport your bike at short notice.  Some days we can pickup same or next days but in peak or busy periods it may be 1-2 business days.

For regional and interstate moves we ask that you attempt to order transportation service at least 10 days prior to your requested pick-up date. By placing your order in advance, we have a greater chance of picking up your bike on or as close as possible to your requested date.

When your bike is being moved interstate we like to collect it 2 to 3 days before transportation however we understand that this doesn’t always suit so we can collection earlier and store safely and securely in our depot.

We always do our very best to comply with customers needs, collecting and delivering at the desired dates, but unfortunately we are unable to provide a guarantee due to the nature of the business. Things can and do go wrong (albeit very rarely).  We are at the mercy of weather, road closures, accidents, delays at pickup locations, broken down vehicles and driver legal times and requirements plus much more.  But we are happy to note that we are on time 99.9% of the time!

How long does it take to transport a bike with Motorcycle Transport & Logistics?

There are several factors that can affect transportation times:

• Varying collection times
• The distance of the bike transportation
• Weather conditions, traffic, vehicle maintenance
• Public holidays
• Geographic location

Generally, coast to coast moves or to northern regions of the continent allow between 7 to 10 working days. For transit times up and down the east coast allow 4 to 5 working days. To Tasmania out of Melbourne, allow 3 to 5 working days depending on destination. Inclement weather, traffic and vehicle maintenance depending on their severity may lengthen transit time.

Trip planning and route coordination is determined by current orders. For example, if your vehicle is the last to load and the first to unload, the transit time will be drastically reduced. If your bike is the first to load and the last to unload, the transportation time will be lengthened.

Express service is available to some destinations at an extra cost.

Does Motorcycle Transport & Logistics door to door service?

Yes. We pride ourselves in our door to door service. Your bike will be collected as close to your desired location as possible. In some cases we may ask that you meet our vehicle at a mutually convenient location that has a large parking area. This may be due to the large size of the truck / van -trailer combination and the inability to manoeuvre through some streets and under some bridges, wires and branches.

The driver will call you to confirm your address and discuss accessibility.

What happens if I’m not available when the truck comes to deliver the bike?

We try to keep each customer well informed during the entire shipping process. It is our policy to call the customer 12 to 24 hours in advance of collection or delivery to establish a more accurate estimated time of arrival and to work out specific directions.

We ask that you make yourself as available as much as possible. In some cases, your local bike shop can be a collection or delivery point by arrangement with the manager or owner of the bike shop.  However if you can’t be home but have a family member or neighbour who you are happy to accept the bike on your behalf then this is fine.  They don’t need to know how to handle a bike. We will happily place it in a garage or undercover location, lock it up and handover the keys.

In the event you are not able to take possession of your bike upon delivery, your bike will be placed at a depot.  The customer, will be responsible for all depot and holding costs.   Please note, that even though a bike is placed at a depot, it is still possible to provide door delivery to your desired designation at an additional cost.

Depot Service:
With our Depot Service your bike will either be picked up or delivered to a depot. We have depots located in most capital cities.

What forms of payment are accepted?

We accept pre-payment by electronic fund transfer ( E.F.T) or Credit Card (Visa or MasterCard).

Our price includes all charges including credit card fees.

At collection, payment can be made with cash but is subject to prior arrangement with our office.

It is a MTL requirement that transport charges are paid in full before your motorcycle is delivered.

Can I send parts and other equipment with my bike?

Yes you can!  Small items that are securely fitted or strapped to the seat of the motorcycle such as papers, books, keys etc will not incur an extra charge.  Items that fit securely within a properly fitted saddle bag, carry packs or panniers are permitted and again free (but please don’t load it up to the point where we can’t manually push your bike or it makes it too heavy and risks damaging yours or others’ bikes).

If you have larger items or spare parts we will happily take them at an additional charge.  All items must be boxed/bubble wrapped.  Please provide us with the overall dimensions and weight and we can provide you with a price.  As a general rule – 40x40x40cm and no heavier than 20kilos is $40. Note: anything heavier than 20 kilos may not be able to be moved due to health and safety regulations.  Heavy items such as bike engines will need to be placed on a skid or pallet and again we can quote you for this service.

IMPORTANT:  any items that travel either with or separately to your bike including helmets parts or anything else are not covered by our insurance.   If you are unsure, it never hurts to ask and we can see if we can accommodate your needs!

In some circumstances, when the bike is crated and small parts or equipment can be securely fastened to the base of the crate, they may be moved with the bike. Any damage to your bike by these items are not covered by insurance.

Is Motorcycle Transport & Logistics insured?

Yes. Our transport insurance covers the market value of your bike whilst being loaded, transported and unloaded. This cover extends to contractors and agencies operating on our behalf. For further information on transport insurance details contact our office or via e-mail.

What can I do to reduce my price?

We believe that the quality of service you will receive from Motorcycle Transport & Logistics is well worth the cost. With us, you get more for your moving dollar. True, there are other carriers who are cheaper, but can you put a price on peace of mind?

Our philosophy however, is that it never hurts to ask so drop us a line and we will see what we can do!

What if I believe the bike has been damaged?

In the unlikely event of damage occurring to your bike, all claims are handled separately once the transporter has received the signed Consignment Note, noting the damages.

You cannot withhold or deduct monies from the C.O.D. amount to cover damages that may have occurred in transit.

A formal investigation process begins where we assess the information available to us including any photographs.  Please note that damage that occurs while in transit is very visible and usually occurs (very rarely we might add) due to straps breaking or handling error.  Stone chips and other riding related damages are not covered by our insurance.  We do not ride your motorcycle at any stage (we have plenty of our own that we love to ride!)
